This paper presents the requirements for the method and extent of testing of non coherent optical radiation at work places, as well as the meters used for tests. The requirements are based on the current standards in the field of optical radiation. The scope of the exposure measurements are presented in conjunction with the current values of MDE. There is a description of the method of determining the angular dimension of radiation source α and how to calculate the effective source radiance from the measured effective irradiance. At the end, the paper presents the recommended frequency of testing and suggestions concerning the content of the study

The article describes basic problems concerning qualifications required from personnel handling LNG terminal facilities and equipment in view of the new terminal in Świnoujście. Statistical data, separately reported for LNG tankers, indicate a drop of the number of accidents and machinery failures on ships. The legal basis for the organization of common seafarer training and additional training for LNG vessel crews is outlined. Finally, the authors point out the areas of training for shore-based personnel handling LNG vessels, types of equipment of training centers for specialized LNG courses and estimated costs of such training

Quality management systems established in conformity with ISO 9000 standards have an over twenty-year tradition. In the article attention has been focused on relations between goals defined within the framework of QMS (Quality Management Systems) and business results. The amendment of the bill, planned for the year 2015, changes the previous concept of QMS by introducing a number of new requirements which adjust organisation management systems to the current level of knowledge and environment of the organisation. One of the requirements that will be emphasised in a new issue of ISO 9001 standard is risk management, the innovation implementation process and information management. The article reviews the requirements contained in the current issue of the standard, focussing on requirements which limit the risk of organisation functioning and the risk related to innovation design and implementation
  • Stateczny, Kamil (Scientific Journals of the Maritime University of Szczecin, Zeszyty Naukowe Akademii Morskiej w Szczecinie, 2012)
The paper presents a prototype of a new input–output device which is a constructed scanner of human upper limb movement which, together with the software layer, creates a new user interface of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine tools. The constructed scanner contains a sensory system based on acceleration sensors and gyroscopes which are distributed within the key areas on the human upper limb. On the basis of the signals registered during the movement of operator's upper limbs, basing on the solution of a simple kinematics model, it is possible to determine the location and orientation of operator’s hands. A combination of the developed technology with ready solutions of gloves scanning movements of fingers and hands provides a new intuitive input-output device for the communication with the machine;Stateczny, Kamil

In order to be able to use the method of surveying satisfaction of production departments with the services provided by maintenance departments, one must first acquire and analyse considerable amounts of data. Such an attempt may only be successful if an appropriate information tool is used. This article provides a discussion on the concept of an MS Excel spreadsheet application for the sake of creating such a tool. The author has proposed a specific data structure enabling storage of the data acquired in the course of research. The entities occurring in it have been identified and discussed, and so have the attributes assigned to individual entities. The author has also elaborated on the spreadsheet mechanisms which allow for data processing in accordance with the premises of the aforementioned metho

Since 2013 Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for new ships will be enforced. Ships meeting the CO2 emission standards will be granted energy certificate required for their exploitation. The paper presents EEDI in the current form, the certification procedure, reduced CO2 emission planned for coming years, as well as potential for further EEDI value reduction

Since 2013 Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for new ships will be enforced. Ships meeting the CO2 emission standards will be granted energy certificate required for their exploitation. The paper presents EEDI in the current form and influence of the ship speed and decrease of the ship speed on EEDI
  • Tylicki, Henryk (Scientific Journals of the Maritime University of Szczecin, Zeszyty Naukowe Akademii Morskiej w Szczecinie, 2012)
In this paper author introduces problem of the reduction of diagnostic information in evolution condition machine for estimating state prognosis algorithms which are the basis for determining conclusion rules for estimating the next machine operation term and for state genesis which is the basis for rules creating of machine state estimation in the past. Automation of the investigation system of the evolution of the technical systems machines condition in which diagnosing distinguishes itself of prognose of the state and the genesis of the state requires the qualifications of the gathering of diagnostic parameters describing the change of the condition of the machine during exploitation. The results of investigations connected with the implementation of the procedures of monitoring the technical machine engines condition and their investigation for the chosen arrangements of mechanical vehicles were introduce

In the paper the impact of changes in coal quality on boiler operation with the retort furnace had been discussed. Study used a test for the three types of coal from different mines. Energy and emission studies have shown that even relatively coals not much different with physicochemical parameters, causing a marked change of the efficiency of device operation. Attention was drawn to the growing scale of the problem in the application of fuel significantly deviating from properties of the classical fuel to the retort furnaces. The ways to improve the quality of use of boilers with retort burner have been given

The article presents functioning of e-administration in the Silesian Province. Respondents from different towns in the Silesian Province evaluated the following issues: benefits of using an e-office, the medium used for communication with an e-office, the level of customer satisfaction with e-administration functioning. The research results were analysed by exploratory factor analysis. The main advantages of using e-administration which were quoted by the surveyed include: the promptness of settling matters and the lack of queues. Three hidden factors related to the benefits of using an e-office were defined by means of exploratory factor analysis: accessibility, communication and costs, as well as safety. On the basis of the conducted investigations it can be stated that in the process of introducing e-administration it is necessary to be exercise caution and constantly control the level of these services quality

The article presents the results of research into the time of work of maintenance department employees in a selected production plant. The measurements have been taken for three selected employees during 9 working days. Major activities performed by the employees have been identified and classified in three basic groups: the effective time devoted to daily duties connected with technical means maintenance, the auxiliary time which involves preparatory and administrative works as well as the ineffective time during which the employees undertook activities not related to the performed work. Among the ineffective and auxiliary activities the longest lasting ones have been specified. By means of the 5Why Method the causes responsible for the occurrence of major ineffective and auxiliary activities have been identified. As a result of the conducted analysis, corrective measures aimed at shortening the time of these activities have been identified, which should contribute to the improvement of maintenance department employees’ work effectiveness
