Because of very freauent stormy weather conditions in the Baltic Sea causing short and steep wave and also heavy traffic of fishing units, a number of marine accidents happens in this area. The paper presents a short analysis of frequency of storms, poor visibility caused by fog and precipitation. Conclusions of the Marine Chamber in Szczecin indicating the weather conditions during particular accidents are quoted.

Przedstawiono metodę pozwalającą na określenie w ciągu całego roku okresów o sprzyjających warunkach pogodowych dla prowadzenia prac hydrotechnicznych. W metodzie wykorzystywane są dane o częstościach występowania różnych czynników hydrometeoroloficznych, uśrednione za okres ostatnich 30 lat. Metoda znalazła praktyczne zastosowanie w przedsiębiorstwach gospodarki morskiej.

Wiatry sztormowe generują w strefie przybrzeżnej duże fale, które działają niszcząco na nabrzeże i budowie nabrzeżne. Wobec braku precyzyjnej definicji wiatru sztormowego, autorzy przyjęli za taki wiatro o prędkości >15m/s. Analizie poddano codzienne dane obserwacyjne z lat 1966-1985 ze stacji meteorologicznych w Świnoujściu i Kołobrzegu oraz z posterunku meteorologicznego w Dziwnowie.
