The properties of natural gas as potential fuel for combustion engines, particularly those used for ship propulsion have been presented. The requirements for gas system, as well as gas – air mixture formation and combustion, including knocking, have been described. Taking into account the main gas engine variables, the dual fuel engine has been proposed for installation, as well as high pressure liquid natural gas system and gas injection into the engine combustion chamber.
