The paper describes a research concerning possible applications of orthogonal ba-ses for the recognition of changes between various forms on the seabed recorded as sonar images. The distribution of changes in seabed forms is characteristic of any place. Therefore, they can be associated with geographical co-ordinates, which can be used for determining ship position in comparative navigation.
