  • Montewka, Jakub (Scientific Journals Maritime University of Szczecin, Zeszyty Naukowe Akademia Morska w Szczecinie, )
The article presents the error analysis of the method of determination the horizontal dimensions of safety maneuvering area for vessels, based on laser measurements. Some solutions of reducing these errors have been suggested as well.

Navigational risk assessment is a complex process, which aims to determine the level of safety over the analyzed area. Usually two approaches are used: qualitative and quantitative. Engineers tend to view risk in an objective way in relation to safety, and as such use the concept of risk as an objective safety criteria. Among engineers risk is defined as a product of probability of occurrence of an undesired event and the expected consequences in terms of human, economic and environmental loss. These two components are equally important therefore appropriate estimation of these values is a matter of great significance. This paper deals with one of these two components: the probability of vessels‟ collision assessment. A new approach for probability estimation of collision between vessels is presented, rooted in aviation experiences. The presented model for collision frequency estimation takes into account historical traffic data from AIS, generalized vessel dynamics and uses advanced statistical and optimization methods (Monte-Carlo, Genetic Algorithms)

With great pleasure we present the 43rd issue of the Scientific Journals of the Maritime University of Szczecin, a quarterly journal, which published original work on maritime-related topics such as improved safety and environmental protection. The Marine Engineering and Innovation section contains a series of articles about operational safety, minimization of energy consumption and modern control systems. The section entitled Navigation and Maritime Transport focuses on maritime SAR missions, collision avoidance and navigational safety improvements for maritime traffic. The Transportation Engineering section contains articles on ship operations in extreme conditions such as among ice floes, close to offshore wind farms and in pirate-infested waters. Readers who wish to send us any comments and suggestions concerning the development of our journal are welcome to do so any time. Authors are invited to submit original studies on a broad range of maritime- -related topics. To access the electronic version of the current and back issues please visit the journals website available at https://scientific-journals.pm.szczecin.pl/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=139&Itemid=128&lang=pl/.

With great pleasure we present the 42nd issue of the Scientific Journals of the Maritime University of Szczecin which publishes original work on maritime-related topics. The section entitled Marine Engineering and Innovation contains a series of articles dealing with deformation of engine components, improvement of flow efficiency and the reliability of buffered systems as well as power transmission and energy effectiveness. The section entitled Navigation and Maritime Transport focuses on nautical traffic models and contains case studies from the ports of Rotterdam, Szczecin – Świnoujście and Shenzen. Additionally, the issue contains papers on ship operational safety, expectations of human resources from an industry perspective, human and social factors affecting safety, and the operational running of the Archives of the Maritime University of Szczecin. Readers who wish to send us any comments and suggestions concerning the development of the journal are welcome to do so at any time. • Zalewski, Paweł; Montewka, Jakub (Scientific Journals Maritime University of Szczecin, Zeszyty Naukowe Akademia Morska w Szczecinie, )
The paper presents a verification of the optoelectronic experiment based method, by means of another method using RTK GNSS techniques.
  • Zalewski, Paweł; Montewka, Jakub (Scientific Journals Maritime University of Szczecin, Zeszyty Naukowe Akademia Morska w Szczecinie, )
The article presents two methods of determining safe waterway parameters in con-fined waters, based on real experiments. The methods have been developed at the Insti-tute of Marine Traffic Engineering.
  • Montewka, Jakub; Przywarty, Marcin (Scientific Journals Maritime University of Szczecin, Zeszyty Naukowe Akademia Morska w Szczecinie, )
The paper presents mathematical modeling for the positioning of the ship’s hull and determination of the ship’s path width. The above are achieved by two non-simultaneous measurements with a pulsed laser rangefinder. The investigated area is the entrance to the port of Świnoujście.
  • Montewka, Jakub (Scientific Journals Maritime University of Szczecin, Zeszyty Naukowe Akademia Morska w Szczecinie, )
The article presents a concept of the method of determination the horizontal dimensions of safe maneuvering area for vessels, based on laser measurements, conducted at the entrance to the Port of Świnoujście. The error analysis of the method is discussed as well
  • Montewka, Jakub (Scientific Journals Maritime University of Szczecin, Zeszyty Naukowe Akademia Morska w Szczecinie, )
The article presents the verification of the commonly used analytical method of determining the safety waterways' parameters. The verification is conducted by means of the method based on the real time experiment using the landbome laser range finder. The analysis concerns the inland passenger crafts navigating on the straight waterway lying under the Długi Bridge in Szczecin.

Zaproponowano sposób określania błędów pięciu metod analitycznych stosowanych do projektowania bezpiecznej szerokości dróg wodnych Błędy oszacowano opierając się na porównaniu wyników z wynikami wcześniej przeprowadzonych badań symulacyjnych ruchu statków. Analiza błędów poszczególnych metod analitycznych pozwoliła określić granice ich stosowalności i przydatność do projektowania różnych rodzajów dróg wodnych.
