The article discusses an algorithm devised for presentations of acceptable solutions to collision situations of ships at sea. The solutions, course alteration ranges, are determined in compliance with the Collision Regulations. The solutions account for cases where more than two vessels are involved in a collision situation. The algorithm has been implemented into NAVDEC, a navigational decision support system. The presented results have been obtained in field research, onboard the motor vessel Nawigator XXI.

This article discusses an algorithm of navigational data fusion. The algorithm has been verified through its implementation in a real time application. Parallel measurements of position obtained from two different GPS receivers have been integrated in this experiment. The experiment results are presente

This article is an overview aimed at a synthetic description of computational mathematics applications in marine navigation. The presented classification of algorithms is based on their application in specific fields of marine navigation. The literature referring to each group of algorithms is then discusse

The integration of seaports security subsystems aims at a development of the complex connection of local seaport security subsystems into a uniform overall security system. This requires the use of wire and wireless telecommunication infrastructure of the seaport territory, port basin and ships attributed to that port. These authors consider the application of cryptography and steganography in integration of seaports security subsystems

This article presents the NAVDEC, a navigational decision support system on a sea-going vessel. The system, developed at the Maritime University of Szczecin, is compared with other systems of this type worldwide. New functionalities of the NAVDEC are highlighted, as they may significantly contribute to the enhancement of navigational safety. As there has always been a growing interest in implementing research results into practical use, the authors describe their experience in transferring new technology to industry

The paper refers to the tracking system nonlinear control synthesis via the sliding mode control where it is assumed that there is an unknown nonlinear function in the object model. It has been pointed out that the presented approach may be directly gen-eralized to the much more advanced case, consisting in adaptive approximation of un-known function by means of AI aproximators. The system operation has been illustrated with an example of ship course keeping problem.

This article describes a ship course stabilization system. It is based on the comput-er-borne dynamical model. Such an approach, which uses also the fuzzy sets theory, forms a new and original way of constructing a control algorithm. The computer ship model is simplified, i.e. it does not take into account the dynamics of the steering gear. The algorithm quality has been verified via simulations and compared to the LQR regu-lator.

The paper presents a design of an adaptive system of ship course stabilization based on Nomoto’s model. As a control algorithm the LQR control was adopted, whereas the model identification is performed on the basis of ‘continuous version’ of the least-squares algorithm. The performance of the system operation was simulated using a de Witt-Oppe nonlinear model as a real ship model.
