    In the following paper a prototype of a new kind of constant capacity pump with pistons rotating in toroidal space has been presented. Some of the results, i.e. analysis of pressure losses in the new type of pump have been described. The results of the exper-iment can be applied while designing such a pump.

    This paper discusses the results of tests on the effect of compression ratio changes on engine start-up properties, the mean pressure of the compression stroke end and on the temperature of the compressed charge for the tested one cylinder SB-3.1 engine. The measurements were carried out at the ambient temperature 285 K.

    Relations between diagnostic signal parameters and acceptable limit values of operational parameters were used to classify the states of gas turbine engines. For pre-dicting the time of faultless operation of engines we used predictive models describing the values of observed diagnostic parameters as a function of power and active opera-tion time of engines. An example was presented to show the verification of models for a preset operation time. The accuracy of predictions was estimated.

    The paper presents problems of the determination of ship’s diesel engine waste heat reserves during real operating and environmental conditions. Possibilities and limita-tions of waste heat utilization in marine power systems are presented as well.

    It is possible to apply an Acoustic Emission (AE) signal for diagnosing the fuel injection system of a marine diesel engine. By the signal decomposition using the wave-let method we can determine significant parameters of injection and some failures of the injection system. For the estimation of operation of selected elements the author propos-es to create a coefficient being a signal measure suitable for quick diagnosis of a failure.

    This paper presents the modeling and evaluation of contact stresses in gear teeth of the camshaft drive of a Sulzer RT48T-B engine. The evaluation has been done with the MSC Nastran for Windows system. The model has been verified for the Hertz problem for a contact of two cylinders. The model made it possible to determine the value of stresses in the contact zone and in the Bielaiev point.

    The paper describes a method for the estimation of parameters of a physical wave model of prismatic rubber vibration mounts for vibration isolation systems with linearly changing properties versus the frequency of forces.

    Relations between wear, technical state, symptom and up/down states of a machine are presented. The concepts of the quality, efficiency and effectiveness in a company are explained. The relationship is shown between the quality in a company and the boundary values of up state and technical state.

    A method of failure diagnosis of automotive gearboxes is introduced. This method is applied at the last stage of the production process during final quality control. The author describes in detail the methods of diagnostic signals processing. Moreover, procedures of diagnostic deduction and algorithms for locating a gearbox failure is presented.

    In a mining ship, the tracking control system is one of its most significant systems. Its power output depends on weather parameters in the mining area and on dimensions of the ship. The tracking control system power is very high, thus the dimensions of the ship are considerably influenced by the weight and dimensions of the ship power plant. The article presents a spatial conception of a mining ship and the determined maximum power demand of the tracking control system. This article is a continuation of the prob-lem described in [2].

    This paper presents the results of experimental and model strength analysis (by finite elements method, FEM) for water drilling platform structures. The validity of this analysis is supported by some examples.

    The relation between signals measured on tunnel thruster elements and forces coming from the operation of thruster gearbox elements is shown in the paper. The pre-sented results are part of the work aimed at the development of a condition monitoring model of a marine tunnel thruster.

    The global LNG shipping capacity is growing sharply and the number of ordered LNG carriers is very high at the moment. It is possible that Poland will appear among experienced builders of those ships. The author considers the requirements for propul-sion systems of modern LNG carriers, the methods of utilising boil-off gas, different alternatives of power sources. Besides, the paper introduces a preliminary idea of re-search on an optimal solution of propulsion system closely related with the size of the vessel.
